NEVER WONDER WHAT TO COOK AGAIN
Most people don’t actually know how to cook… they know how to follow recipes.
They might have a handful of meals they can make without thinking.
But the moment they want something new, they’re back to scrolling online or digging out a cookbook.
So what happens?
They fall into the same common pattern:
The same 3-4 meals on repeat
Little variety from week to week
Meals chosen based on convenience, not intention
Not because they lack motivation… just because they’ve never been shown a better way.

The origin of Cook Like a Nutritionist
A few years ago, I wrote The Plant-Based Power Plan, published with Penguin Life. It focused on plant-based sports nutrition, and helped thousands of athletes and active adults thrive on a diet centred around plants.
Although it included a selection of recipes to help bring the principles to life, I kept hearing the same thing:
“This is great… but please can you write a cookbook next?”
At the same time, I realised something important.
Most people don’t actually need more recipes.
They need to understand how to cook.
Alongside my work as a nutritionist, I’ve spent years working in kitchens and teaching at the world-renowned Demuths Cookery School. Through that, I’ve learned how to build meals that are not just nutritionally sound, but genuinely satisfying and packed with flavour.
So instead of creating another traditional cookbook full of fixed recipes, I built something different.
A system that teaches you the principles behind great meals – so you can create your own, again and again, without ever needing to follow a recipe.
That’s an invaluable skill that can set you up for eating well for life.

Yes. As a Registered Sports Nutritionist, I've designed these formulas to help you build meals that support muscle growth, recovery, and athletic performance while still being practical and enjoyable.
-
Definitely. Most of the formulas are highly adaptable and can easily be customised to suit different tastes, making them ideal for family meals.
-
Not at all. The formulas are designed to work with everyday supermarket ingredients. In fact, most of the ingredients are very affordable staples, and one of the main goals of this book is to help you make nutritious meals from what you already have at home.
-
Many of the formulas can be prepared in 10–20 minutes, while others are ideal for batch cooking and meal prep. The emphasis is on practical meals that fit into real life.
-
One of the main goals of this book is to make healthy cooking feel simple, accessible, and intuitive. For that reason, most ingredients are measured using cups or tablespoons rather than requiring you to weigh everything on a scale.
In my experience, many people find weighing ingredients time-consuming and impractical, especially when cooking regular meals. Using volume-based measurements makes it easier to put the formulas into practice consistently.
-
Most cookbooks teach you how to make specific recipes. This book teaches you how to think like a nutritionist in the kitchen. Once you understand the formulas, you'll be able to create hundreds of balanced meals without constantly searching for new recipes.
