Why Meat Free Fitness exists

Healthy eating has never been more confusing.

Social media is full of sensational headlines, miracle diets and conflicting advice. One day carbohydrates are the enemy. The next it's seed oils. Then it's fruit.

It's no wonder so many people feel overwhelmed. Yet when you step back and look at the totality of the scientific evidence, a very different picture emerges.

The fundamentals of healthy eating are surprisingly simple.

And one message stands out consistently:

Eating more minimally processed plant foods is one of the most powerful things we can do to improve both our own health and the health of our planet.

That's why Meat Free Fitness exists.

Why plants?

The evidence supporting plant-rich diets has never been stronger.

Research consistently shows that diets centred around vegetables, fruits, wholegrains, legumes, nuts and seeds are associated with lower risks of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, several cancers and premature death.

They're also one of the most effective ways of reducing the environmental impact of the food we eat.

You don't have to become vegan overnight to benefit – every meal containing a little more plant food is a step in the right direction.

Evidence first. Always.

Everything on this website is grounded in the best available scientific evidence.

That means you'll find references throughout many of the articles, balanced discussions of the evidence and an honest acknowledgement whenever uncertainty exists.

Nutrition science is constantly evolving, but that doesn't mean everything is uncertain.

One of my goals is to help people distinguish between genuine scientific debate and the confusion often created by social media algorithms.
